Woman blasted for choosing baby name inspired by 'hookup app' - husband refuses to use it

When it comes to baby names, some people pick monikers they like the sound of, or ones that are a nod to other members of the family, while others take inspiration from somewhere else entirely.

One woman thinks she's found the perfect name for her daughter, because it is inspired by the app that helped her find her "true love a little over one year ago". However, her husband as well as many others online aren't so sure.

Taking to a mum's group on Facebook, the woman shared that she is almost seven months pregnant with their first child.

In the post, which has been reposted to Reddit's Sh**MomGroupsSay forum, she explains: "I've been fighting with my husband because he doesn't like the name I've picked out."

She continued: "I want to name her Tinderleigh because we met on Tinder a little over a year ago. The site helped me find my true love, and I think the name is perfect.

"My husband thinks it's embarrassing and doesn't want people to know we met there. How can I convince him how special this name is to me?"

The mum-to-be also added that she's "a little hurt that he is embarrassed by the way we came together in this world".

Instead of offering advice, the people of Reddit started making up their own baby names based on how they met their partners.

One person joked: "My partner and I met on an app when I needed help with regular rides to work. Guess we should have named our newborn NextDoor," to which someone added: "...leigh".

Another jibed: "My husband and I met at work, so I guess we should be naming our kid Workleigh?".

A third commented: "We are old fashioned and met in an office so maybe we could use Cubicleleigh?".

Not everyone was a fan of the name, with one person saying: "That's just asking for your kid to be bullied in the future. I'm all for unique names, but come on."

Some suggested that perhaps the husband wasn't embarrassed about how they met, but more likely that they would name their daughter after the app.

One person commented: "We don't know if the husband is embarrassed about how they met, only that he finds the name Tinderleigh embarrassing. It's the wife who is interpreting that to mean he is embarrassed about how they met and then presenting it as his actual position. Very common communication mistake and one of the reasons you should never rely on one side's account."

Another added: "It's not embarrassing to have met on Tinder but it is embarrassing to name your daughter after a hookup app.

"Better off naming her Wednesday or Saturday or whatever day your first date was. Or name her after the first flower he gave you. Literally anything is better than this."
