When it comes to naming children, all parents have their own titles in mind that they're drawn to for one reason or another.
Of course, what someone else names their newborn mightn't be to your taste, as everyone has different ideas of what makes a good moniker. But one woman had to speak her mind after finding out what her cousin planned to name their next baby - and you likely won't find it in any baby book.
Saying that nothing could have prepared her for the very unique name, the concerned family member did all she could to persuade her cousin to pick something else. But she and other family members didn't respond well to the criticism.
As a result, she took to Reddit to seek advice on whether she'd gone too far. As the Mirror reports, the woman wrote: "My cousin is due in July with a baby girl. During her whole pregnancy she has been dropping hints about the name she picked.
"She would say things like, 'Children bring this'. My first guess was something normal like Hope. I figured children bring hope to the world. "Anyways, nothing could have prepared me or my family (my mum and siblings) for what she was planning."
She shared how her cousin wants to name her baby Light Bringer, with Brings as her nickname.
"I thought she was joking, but she isn't. I decided to video chat with my cousin and politely ask her if she'd want to change the name," she added. "I offered some alternatives and she wouldn't budge. I told her that the name Lucifer means Light Bringer. She did not care.
"I found out that she originally had some other names picked out. These names are a little better than Light Bringer. She had Andromeda, Cassiopeia, and Starr to name a few. I asked her why she didn't like those names, and she just shrugged."
Trying another approach, the woman told her cousin how she'd posted about the baby's name on Reddit, inviting users to share their thoughts on it. But after sharing the "public's opinion", the woman was shunned from the family for being "jealous" of the unborn child.
The woman said: "Needless to say, she was not happy. I am not allowed near her family till she cools off. Her mum, siblings, and husband are not too happy with me now.
"I was going to delete my original post until my cousin accused me of being jealous of her because I (infertile) can't have kids. I told her this was not jealousy.
"I told her I simply don't think Light Bringer is a good name for a person. Whatever then, I guess you can name your kid whatever you want."
Commenting on her post, one user said: "At least it isn’t spelled Lyghte Bryngerr or something. Actually.. that might be better." Another user added: "Just be there for the child when she gets tormented at school and resist the 'I told you so' impulse."
A third user said: "It's a terrible name and the child is going to be bullied mercilessly in school. But it's really not your place to do anything other than say you like or don't like only if asked.
"Your cousin is a total a**hat (who's going to ruin their child's childhood) for bringing infertility into the conversation. It's a terrible, stupid name."
