Woman becomes trapped underneath car 'after handbrake issue'

A woman became trapped underneath a car in Oldham after a 'handbrake issue'.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident on Hillside Close, near Sholver Lane in Sholver, at around 9pm last night (Wednesday). Police officers said they responded to a 'concern for welfare of a woman trapped under a vehicle'.

Fire crews helped rescue the woman and she was taken to hospital from the scene. Thankfully, she did not suffer serious injuries.

The Manchester Evening News' understands that car due to a handbrake issue. Paramedics were also called to the scene.

Sholver Lane was taped off by officers after the incident, with witnesses reporting seeing 'around 30 people' stood around a vehicle previously. One resident said: "I just saw a load of blue lights and heard all the sirens.

"I couldn't see much from my upstairs window but there were definitely around 30 people all stood around a car at the side of the road."

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 9pm yesterday evening (Wednesday 8 February 2023), officers were called to a concern for welfare of a woman trapped under a vehicle on Hillside Close in Oldham. Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken to hospital for medical assessments and no serious injuries were reported."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just after 6pm this evening firefighters from Hollins and Oldham fire stations, and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton fire station rescued a woman who was trapped under a vehicle on Hillside Close in Oldham.

"Police officers, Ambulance crew, and firefighters worked together to save the woman who has now been taken to hospital."
