A woman-beating thug has been caged after beating up two former partners in brutal attacks.
Liam Marshall, 30, left one of his victims unconscious in the street, while another another was pinned up against the wall and hurled to the ground.
Marshall, of Stoke-on-Trent, appeared at Truro Crown Court to receive his sentence via video-link from HMP Dovegate having pleaded guilty to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.
Prosecutor Michael Brown described how the first victim was in a relationship with Marshall.
In December 2020, they were both at a property drinking when Marshall confronted her over messages, accusing her of speaking to other men.
He became verbally abusive before picking up a frying pan with hot oil in it and threatening her.
Marshall then grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed her against a wall. He let her go before doing the same thing again. Marshall eventually threw the complainant to the floor causing her to hit her head and sustain a cut.
He was released under investigation and then in February 2021 Marshall was with the mother of his son at a friend’s house.
Agitated Marshall, care of Darrall Gardens, Trent Vale, stormed out of the property but was followed by his victim. A confrontation ensued on the street when words were exchanged from both sides.
A struggle then took place during which Marshall struck the woman as she lay on the street, rendering her unconscious. She was eventually diagnosed with having suffered nerve damage to the side of the face, as well as severe anxiety.
The court heard how Marshall had previous convictions for violence against women.
On behalf of Marshall, Robin Smith said he was realistic about his position and accepted his previous convictions went before him.
Sentencing Marshall, Judge Simon Carr said: “You’ve been before the courts numerous times for violence against women.
“The first assault I accept a verbal argument escalated. You placed your hands around her throat and struck her with considerable force, as well as threatening her with hot oil.
“The second assault took place when a verbal argument escalated. It was verbal on both sides.”
Judge Carr said that the victim lay on the ground posing no threat to Marshall, yet he decided to punch her unconscious.
Marshall was jailed for 30 months with restraining orders put in place to protect the victims.
