An ASOS customer has shared her shock after being told her parcel would not arrive for 803 days despite paying for next-day-delivery on her account.
Kerri Kinsella, 30, from Dublin, ordered a pair of New Balance trainers for her friend through the online shop. But she was left gobsmacked after learning the shoes would arrive much later than expected.
The shopper claims she received an email explaining her order had been delayed but did not have any initial concerns. It was only when her friend noticed the date and she looked closer that she realised just how long the delay would be.
"I actually laughed out loud thinking it was some kind of joke and to add in it was 803 working days," said Kerri. "The order made was for a pair of New Balance trainers on my account as I specifically paid for next-day delivery service for a year, which is maybe why I find the delivery time so hilarious.
"I initially got the email to say it's delayed and just passed the message on to my friend. I didn't read too much into it, just a quick glance. It was only when she asked me to see if it had a new date that I noticed the email said 803 days.
"I was thinking to myself, the trainers she ordered would probably be in fashion now, go out of fashion and arrive back in fashion by the time they are delivered."
Thankfully, the delivery date was caused by a technical blunder, as Kerri soon suspected. "When we went to track the item from the delivery service it had said delivery received in the hub so I knew it wouldn't spend the next two years there. We laughed about it but it just confirmed to never ever trust ASOS next day delivery," she quipped.
Sharing the mishap online, the 30-year-old posted about to incident on Twitter, where the mistake caught the attention of thousands of users. One person commented: "I'd nearly keep it just to see if it actually arrives in 803 days lol." [sic]
Another joked: "Better late than never," while someone else replied: "Omg hope it's worth the wait."
Meanwhile, other shoppers claimed they had faced similar issues, including one customer who replied: "Yep I got the exact same thing, except I get to wait 7.8 years." The tweet was accompanied by a photo of the order, placed on December 11, 2022, which said it would arrive a staggering "2040 working day(s) later than expected."
An ASOS spokesperson said: "We're aware that some customers have received emails stating their parcel won't be delivered for quite a while. We're sorry for the mistake caused by a technical issue on our side, which has now been resolved. We've contacted all the impacted customers to inform them that their parcels are arriving one day later than planned – not one decade!"
