Woman asks neighbours to blast out sound of cockatiels to help find her missing bird

The owner of a cockatiel that flew out of the window yesterday (Monday) in South Bristol is asking people in the area to play the sound of a cockatiel loud in their back gardens, to try to find her. Pippa the rosy red cheeked cockatiel went AWOL from her home in Southville yesterday afternoon.

Pippa lives in the the Langton Park area, close to North Street, but launched her disappearing act at around 4pm on Monday afternoon, October 3. Owner Joey Withers reckons she’s probably found somewhere high up to hang out, but is now desperate for help to get her back.

Joey has shared appeals on community social media groups with a rather unusual request. She is asking everyone in BS3 to put their speakers or phones out in the back gardens and play the sound of a YouTube clip.

The clip - which can be found below - is the sound of a cockatiel’s flock call, and Joey is asking people to play it as loudly as possible. The theory is that little Pippa will hear it and respond - so everyone in Southville and Bedminster can work out where she is - or, even better, fly closer to investigate the ‘other cockatiels’.

“She is probably somewhere high up,” said Joey. “She is grey, with red, rosy cheeks. She is tame, but afraid of people she doesn’t know, so if people see or hear her, please don’t approach her - but call me on 07583415420,” she added.

“I would also really appreciate it if people could blast this noise as loud as possible into their gardens, with a bluetooth speaker, if possible. If she can hear it, she will make the same noise back,” she said.

“She might be miles away by now. I really need her back - I’m devastated. She’s probably high up on a tree somewhere. I am asking people not to approach her because she is quite easily spooked and will probably fly off again. I would like people to ring me if they hear or see her,” she added.

This is the YouTube clip of a cockatiel’s flock call - listen out for any responses, but make sure it’s not someone else playing the same clip back to you.
