(Picture: PA Archive)A 21-year-old woman has been charged after a memorial of Captain Sir Tom Moore was defaced in Derbyshire on Saturday.
A climate protester sparked fury after appearing to pour faeces and urine over a memorial to the late British Army officer, who rose to fame after raising millions for the NHS during the pandemic.
Madeleine Budd, of Kedleston Avenue, Manchester, has been charged with criminal damage following the incident, Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed on Monday afternoon.
She was arrested on the force’s behalf by the Met Police on Sunday, after the memorial for Captain Sir Tom was defaced at Thistley Meadow in Hatton, south Derbyshire.
She is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Captain Sir Tom Moore rose to fame after he set up a campaign to complete 100 walks in a bid to raise funds for the NHS during the Covid-19 crisis.
Sir Tom, who raised more than £32m for charity, was knighted by Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle in July 2020.
He died with Covid-19 last February at the age of 100.
