A general view of the White House in Washington

A woman was arrested late Saturday morning for attempting to climb a temporary fence installed outside the White House ahead of next month’s inauguration, the U.S. Secret Service confirmed. The unidentified woman was swiftly taken into custody for unlawful entry and was subsequently transported to the DC Metro Police Department’s 2nd District for processing.

Despite President Biden being present at the White House during the incident, the woman's attempt to breach the fence did not pose a threat to the president or any other protectees, as stated by the Secret Service.

Similar security breaches have occurred in the past.

This incident brings to mind previous security breaches at the White House. In March 2017, a man named Jonathan Tuan-Anh Tran from California was arrested by the Secret Service after climbing a White House fence and remaining on the grounds for 17 minutes before being apprehended. Tran falsely claimed to have an appointment with then-President Trump.

Another notable security breach occurred in September 2014 when a knife-wielding man named Omar J. Gonzalez managed to jump a fence and gain entry into the East Room of the White House while former President Obama was in office. Gonzalez was eventually caught by security personnel.
