Woman arrested after Wimbledon school crash re-bailed until next year

A woman arrested in connection with a car crash at a Wimbledon school has been re-bailed until early next year, according to police.

Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau, both eight, died after a Land Rover crashed through a fence and into The Study Prep School on July 6.

Several other people were injured, including a seven-month-old girl. They have all since been discharged from hospital.

The driver of the car – a 46-year-old woman from Wimbledon – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

She was initially bailed until September, and the Met Police confirmed in an update to the Standard that she has been re-bailed until January.

Inquests into the deaths of Nuria and Selena were opened and adjourned at Inner West London Coroner’s Court on July 12.

The local community paid tribute to Selena after the incident, calling her a “shining star”.

Her family described her as an “intelligent” and “cheeky” girl who was “adored and loved by everyone”.

Issuing a picture of her beaming in her school uniform, they said in a brief statement through the Metropolitan Police: “Selena was an intelligent and cheeky girl adored and loved by everyone.

“The family wishes their privacy to be respected at this sad time.”

Nuria’s family described her as the “light of our lives”, adding that she “embodied joy, kindness and generosity and she was loved by all around her”.

A police spokesman said: “Their families continue to request privacy at this difficult time.”
