Woman almost crushed to death by Indiana Jones-style boulder smashing through home

A woman narrowly escaped death when a massive boulder crashed into her home.

The giant boulder, about 5ft high and wide, intruded on the building in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday night.

Shocking footage of the incident shows the woman running for her life and escaping just in time before the boulder continues its destructive route, demolishing more walls in the house.

A car was also damaged, but thankfully, none of the four people inside the home was injured.

The cause of the incident is still unknown as of now, while an investigation is ongoing. In the meantime, the boulder remains inside the property.

Caroline Sasaki, 65, said: "All I heard was the boom when the glass cracked from the sliding door, so I backed up and I guess it passed right through me."

She added: "I haven’t watched the video, but they said if I took one more step, I probably wouldn’t be here," noting a bad leg means she walks slower.

Officials said the boulder crashed through the home’s cinder block wall, living room, and another wall before finally ending up in a bedroom, Hawaii News Now reported.

Craig Tomita, a longtime neighbour, said: "There was so much adrenaline flowing that it just brought me down for a while."

The family that lives in the house, who have moved in there recently, have said they are waiting for insurance investigators to come in and inspect the damage.

Inspectors from local authorities arrived at the house on Monday to assess the area.

The move was reportedly welcomed by the Sasakis, who are looking for answers. Sasaki said: "There was a concern before these even happened."

Pictures from the location show that the area has undergone many changes over the years. Much of the land has been brought down, while a cement wall holding back the hillside.

According to the state, the land above the residence is privately owned.
