Woman allegedly raped and held captive for days in Lyneham home

A woman was allegedly held captive and raped for days in a Lyneham home, before police found her screaming and running up a street naked.

Her alleged rapist, Sisituutuumata Fulvai, 44, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday, when he did not apply for bail and was remanded to custody.

In court, Fulvai could be seen wearing what appeared to be a brown towel around his waist with no shoes, and grey tracksuit pants tucked into his white socks.

Fulvai faces multiple charges including sexual intercourse without consent, unlawfully confining a person, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He is yet to enter pleas.

Fulvai has pleaded not guilty to other unrelated charges including furious, reckless or dangerous driving.

Police claim to have found the alleged victim screaming and running up a street naked on Monday evening.

She was immediately taken into a police car which had been conducting a mobile patrol on Fairweather Circuit in Lyneham.

The woman alleged she had been confined to a nearby residence by a man for a number of days.

She also alleged that the man had committed a number of assaults and sexual assaults against her while she was imprisoned, causing numerous injuries.

Police visited the man's home and arrested him later that evening.

On Tuesday, prosecutor Tahni Whybrow said the charges were not family violence related.

Fulvai is set to face court again next month.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, and further charges are anticipated, police have said.

If you are a victim of family or sexual violence, or believe someone you know is, you can contact police on 131 444 or triple zero (000) in an emergency, or attend any police station.
