An elderly woman was left in hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car.
The 81-year-old was struck by the vehicle near a pedestrian crossing on Knutsford Road in Latchford, Warrington, on Wednesday (April 5). Police on patrol came across the incident at around 12.44pm and found that the woman had suffered injuries that were serious but not believed to be life threatening.
She was taken to Salford Royal Hospital and the driver, a 26-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She remains in custody, reports CheshireLive.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Officers have arrested a 26-year-old woman on dangerous driving offences following a serious collision in Latchford.
"At 12.44pm on Wednesday April 5, officers on patrol in Warrington came across a collision on Knutsford Road, Latchford. The incident, which involved a car and a pedestrian, occurred near to the pedestrian crossing on Knutsford Road.
"The pedestrian, an 81-year-old woman, is believed to have sustained serious, but non-life threatening, injuries and was taken to the Royal Salford Hospital.
"The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries."
