Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of a hit and run in Limerick City in the early hours of this morning.
The incident occurred at 12:30am on William Street and resulted in a woman in her 50s being rushed to a nearby hospital.
The road has been closed by officers as they carry out a technical examination of the scene.
It is understood the woman involved in the collision was a pedestrian who was hit by the fleeing car and is now in University Hospital Limerick receiving treatment.
Officers confirmed to the Irish Mirror that her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing but no arrests have been made at this point.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: "Gardai are investigating a road traffic collision between a pedestrian and a car that occurred at approximately 12:30am on William Street, Limerick City on Monday, March 28 2022.
"A female pedestrian in her late 50s was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
"The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.
"The road remains closed for a technical examination. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing."
