Woman, 21, earns six-figure sum less than a year after quitting uni to run her own business

A woman aged 21 has earned a six-figure sum in under a year after dropping out of university to become an entrepreneur. Olivia Crabtree started a small business to pay for her food shopping while studying - but the enterprise proved to be a big success and gave her a full income within just three months.

Olivia hoped to make £40 a week by selling handmade gifts on Etsy. But trade was much more brisk than she anticipated, meaning she felt able to quit her course at the University of York.

But her feelings changed after she took the plunge, Yorkshire Live reports . "I started my business with financial motivation in mind - I didn’t have a real passion for it, so when I went full-time I lost my love for it," said Olivia.

While feeling dissatisfied with spending her days operating an Etsy business, Olivia discovered she had a knack for supporting other people with their ventures. "As it was so successful in such a short space of time, I was handing out advice and tips to other Etsy sellers, who were coming back to me saying that my help had massively increased their sales," she said.

"It was 11pm on a Friday night when I spontaneously decided to set up a small business tips Instagram page to help others out. After around a month of sharing free tips, someone suggested I write an Etsy eBook – which I did. I launched the eBook and earned more in that first 24 hours than I ever had from any other job before."

Eventually Olivia closed down her Etsy store as profits from 'The Small Business Handbook' began to grow. Since then she has produced a series of journals and planners to help people navigate the world of business.

One of her bestsellers is the 'Dream, Plan, Do' planner, which covers areas such as USPs - unique selling points - as well as search engine optimisation, branding concepts and defining a target market. Olivia also runs 'masterclasses' - these are sessions designed to teach people about business management, from generating sales to social strategy.
