Woman, 21, dies after being shot nine times in café as police hunt for her ex-boyfriend

Police in Turkey are hunting for a man who allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend nine times as she sat in a café.

Meryem Sevim, 21, was sat inside the establishment in Kayapinar district, Diyarbakir, south-eastern Turkey on November 13 last year when her former partner Musa Sevim allegedly gunned her down.

Reports at the time said the gunman opened fire multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Meryem was hit by nine bullets, police said following the attack. Police officers and paramedics rushed to the café in a desperate attempt to try and save her life.

The young woman was taken to Diyarbakir Gazi Yasargil Training And Research Hospital but tragically died from her injuries.

Now, police are desperately trying to find Sevim and question him about the attack.

Following an autopsy at the Forensic Medicine Institute, Meryem's body was handed over to her family.

The news comes after three people were shot not far from Bakirkoy Courthouse in Istanbul on March 24.

Police were called to the area after an unidentified assailant on a motorcycle carried out an armed attack on a bank near the courthouse, injuring a number of people, HaberTurk reports.

And in January, five Iraqi citizens were killed in a shooting on a main road in the Turkish province of Mardin.

Iraqi ministry spokesman Ahmed Al Sahaf confirmed the victims were from two families from the Iraqi Kurdish city of Duhok.
