A 21-year-old woman and her 47-year-old partner have been found dead inside a home in Birmingham.
It is understood the woman was a mother of two. The couple were pronounced dead at just before 9.30pm on Thursday after police officers forced entry into the home.
The 21-year-old woman is believed to have two young children, aged two and three. The family moved in around two years ago, a neighbour said.
A red pushbike and a pink bike could be seen at the front door of the property - which is now taped off as police investigate.
A next door neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told BirminghamLive: "I only know what the police have told me. I knew the family from when they moved in about two years ago.
"They have two children. It’s so sad, I’m upset."
Police are investigating the 'unexplained' deaths and a post-mortem is due to take place later today.
Chief Superintendent Mat Shaer said 'nothing could be done' to save the man or the woman.
Officers were sent to the property after receiving reports of concern for their welfare on Thursday night as they were not answering calls of picking up messages.
Chief Supt Shaer, from Birmingham East Police, has referred to the man and woman as a 'couple' as he said his "heart goes out" to their family and friends.
The incident is being treated as "isolated", with no "threat to the wider public", he added.
“This is truly awful and my heart goes out to the couple’s family and friends," Chief Supt Shaer said.
“It was clear that nothing could be done to save the man or woman.
“No doubt this will come as a huge shock to neighbours and the local community. But we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider public.”
A Swancote Road resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I saw the police cars this morning and me and my wife were wondering what it was about.
"It’s horrible to hear something like this could happen so close to where we live. I’m not sure who lived there.”
Officers have secured the family home and are carrying out searches as part of a thorough forensic examination.
A marked police car is currently guarding the property, which is cordoned off with blue and white tape.
Specially trained family liaison officers are supporting the couple's relatives after the tragic discovery on Swancote Road, Stechford, Birmingham.
No ambulances were called to the scene as paramedics were not 'required', West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed.
No other details about the deaths are currently known.
