A teenage girl has been found dead in her family pool just weeks after being diagnosed with epilepsy.
Kailah May, 19, was discovered by her brother Marley in a swimming pool at the family home in Darwin, Australia, on Monday afternoon.
According to the teen's grandmother Judy, it was Marley who discovered his sister "floating face down in the water".
"He screamed for his mother who said it was the most blood-curdling sound in the world," she said.
Despite the best efforts of the family and parademics to revive Ms May at the scene, she tragically died.
The teen had recently been diagnosed with epilepsy and was reportedly told by doctors that she should not swim in the pool because it would put her at risk.
But Judy explained that her granddaughter always loved the water and was reluctant to heed the warning.
"How do you deny someone their freedom when they love something so much?" she told 360 Radio.
Judy described her granddaughter as a "beautiful soul" who impacted the lives of many in the local community.
Ms May's father was away working in the mines when he received the horrific news that his daughter had died.
With no flights available, a neighbour drove five hours to pick him up so he could return to his heartbroken family.
The teen was a promising football star, with many clubs issuing statements following her death.
South Darwin Rugby League Football Club said: "Rest peacefully beautiful girl who will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing such a talented young lady."
Ms May's family said they will remember her as a "beautiful girl, who loved things like sunrises, sunsets, the beach and the pool. She was a beautiful soul".
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funeral and assist the family at this difficult time.
They said: "The family are hurting beyond words and there will forever be a piece missing from all of us.
"Anyone that had the honour of knowing Kailah would say she had a beautiful light that shined out of her.
"She loved her family with all her heart and soul and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
"We have set up this GoFundMe page to help support Kailah’s sweet farewell and to also help the family through this heart breaking time."
As of June 4, $23,000 (£18,500) has been raised.
Domino's Pizza in Palmerston also helped raise money for the May family through a 'Doughraiser' event.
In a post on Facebook, the pizza restaurant said: "As you may have seen, Domino’s Palmerston, Karama, Casuarina, Coolalinga and Darwin City hosted a Doughraiser Wednesday to support the May family, a local family who recently lost their daughter Kailah in a tragic accident.
"I wanted to thank the entire Darwin community for doing what we do best and banding together to show your support.
"With your help we managed to raise more than $6,400 (£3,700) across all five local Domino’s stores to support the May family, and help ease some of their financial burden during this extremely difficult time.
"A portion of the funds will also be donated by the May family to Epilepsy Australia in honour of Kailah.
"Thank you again for helping us make a difference."
