Wolves gives Ruben Neves future update amid Manchester United speculation

Wolves are in discussions with Ruben Neves regarding his future amid interest with Manchester United.

Technical director Scott Sellars has revealed that club officials are “talking” to Neves but recognised the interest he is attracting from elsewhere in Europe. United fans are keen for their side to bring in a central midfielder this summer, with many unimpressed by the overall standards produced by Fred and Scott McTominay this season.

United are also preparing for the exit of Paul Pogba, whose contract expires in the summer. Neves has been one name frequently touted as a replacement, with rumours stating that Wolves will demand at least £50m for the 25-year-old.

With United now scrambling to gain a top four spot, pressure is mounting for a rebuild of the squad, prompting more speculation around transfers. Now, Sellars has revealed that Wolves are in "open dialogue" with Neves but conceded that there has been significant interest in the Portugal international.

“We're obviously talking to him and we all know how much he loves playing for the club,” he told the Express and Star . “We know how much he has settled here, but he is also an ambitious young man.

"As with all players, you try and have an open dialogue with them and their representatives to come to the best scenario for the club and the player.” He continued: “Rightly so, elite clubs all over Europe will have Ruben on their radar, but we have an excellent relationship with him and will do things properly, and collaboratively, when the time is right.

"Ruben is having a fantastic season and everybody should take a pat on the back in terms of how well he is playing." Sellars attempted to shut down the idea that Neves has been distracted by the speculation over his future, saying: "Since he's been here Ruben has been fully committed to the project.

"He came as a young boy from Porto playing in the Champions League and came to the Championship. From day one he has been fully committed." Since his move in 2017, Neves has racked up 207 appearances, scoring 24 goals and providing 12 assists.
