Wolves dealt blow in search for new manager ahead of key Nottingham Forest clash

Nottingham Forest’s next opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers have been forced to go back to the drawing board in their search for a new manager ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Former Spain coach Julen Lopetegui has turned down the chance to take charge at Molineux for personal reasons. And that leaves Wolves facing the prospect of taking on the Reds without a permanent boss in place.

According to our sister title BirminghamLive, interim bosses Steve Davis and James Collins have taken training again this week. As things stand, they are in line to be in the dugout when Steve Cooper’s side head to the West Midlands this weekend.

Wolves are searching for a replacement for Bruno Lage, who was sacked after a 2-0 defeat at West Ham United earlier this month. They currently sit directly above Forest in the Premier League table, having picked up six points from nine games.

The Reds moved off the foot of the standings with Monday night’s 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa. Emmanuel Dennis opened the scoring at the City Ground, only for Ashley Young to level and leave the points shared.

Nevertheless, the stalemate stopped the rot for Cooper’s men, having lost their previous five matches. And a battling performance was a step in the right direction after a poor display at Leicester City last week.

Pedro Martins is now the bookies’ favourite to become next Wolves boss. He was previously in the hot seat at Olympiacos, who, like Forest, are owned by Greek businessman Evangelos Marinakis.
