Wolves could be without five players for Liverpool after major new injury worry

Wolves could be without five players for their Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Julen Lopetegui was already set to be without four members of his squad for the trip to Merseyside. But the Wolves boss now faces a fresh problem after January signing Matheus Cunha was stretchered off in Friday's draw with Fulham.

The 23-year-old suffered an ankle injury at Craven Cottage and is now a major doubt for the match against Liverpool as Lopetegui confirmed the striker would undergo an MRI scan to reveal the extent of the damage.

The former Spain and Real Manager said on Friday: “Tomorrow he is going to have an MRI (scan) and we have to wait for the check."

Lopetegui's pre-Liverpool press conference on Tuesday should provide a further update.

Pedro Neto could replace Cunha in the Wolves squad for the clash with the Reds after completing another 45 minutes for the under-21s on Friday night.

Speaking after Neto played for the U21s two weeks ago, Lopetegui said: “He is out for four months and improving step by step, but it’s not enough to play. He played 45 minutes in an under-21 match and is improving. We are waiting for him."

Wolves, who are three points above the bottom three, are currently without Boubacar Traore, Hwang Hee-chan, Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic.
