Newcastle United player ratings as Allan Saint-Maximin strikes when it matters most vs Wolves

Nick Pope 7

Left a bit exposed for the Wolves opener but had a solid game all round. Faced 10 shots.

Kieran Trippier 7

Always looked to provide with 13 crosses. A big influence to keep the team going and played a part in reminding Peter Bankes that Fraser was fouled.

Fabian Schar 6

Not his best afternoon. Booked and sent a late effort wide which could have won it.

Sven Botman 7

A tough examination but got stronger as game went on.

Dan Burn 6

Asked to do a job at left-back. Extinguished plenty of Wolves' play out wide. Taken off just after the hour mark.

Joelinton 8

Knew he had a void to fill with Bruno out. And did so very well with a host of strong tackles.

Joe Willock 6

Unable to block Neves' first half shot. Missed close range chance. Has had better afternoons.

Sean Longstaff 6

Asked to step in Bruno's absence. Should have had early penalty. Has 68 touches in all.

Allan Saint-Maximin 8

On a day when it looked to be slipping away he delivered when it mattered. Had tested Wolves throughout the afternoon.

Miguel Almiron 7

At least tried to make things happen in the final third before being taken off.

Chris Wood 6

Lacked any real impact. One chance early on was smothered by the keeper. By the same token service wasn't always great and Newcastle need a major readjustment to simply play to his aerial strengths.

Subs

Matt Targett 7 (for Burn 64)

Offered more natural balance down the left.

Ryan Fraser 7 (for Wood 64)

Played his part in this one. Wolves struggled against his explosiveness.

Elliot Anderson (for Willock 84)

Jacob Murphy (for Almiron 84)

Matt Ritchie (for Saint-Maximin 90)

*Subs must play 15 minutes of regulation time to gain a mark
