Wolverhampton's Jai Herbert faces Kyle Nelson at UFC London on July 23

Wolverhampton's Jai Herbert will fight again in London just four months after a devastating KO loss as he takes on Kyle Nelson.

Herbert, 34, was part of the UFC's return to the capital in March as he fought top featherweight Ilia Topuria. 'The Black Country Banger' had a successful first round and dropped Topuria, but was brutally knocked out by the Georgian just over a minute into the second round.

He will now look to get back in the winning column on July 23 as he faces Canadian Nelson, who hasn't fought since September 2020. Nelson will be moving back up to lightweight for the fight having competed at featherweight since 2019.

Herbert is a former Cage Warriors champion who was signed to the UFC in 2020. He was first scheduled to fight fellow Brit Marc Diakiese at UFC London that year, but the event was cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He didn't make his promotional debut until July of that year, losing by knockout to UFC veteran Francisco Trinaldo. Herbert took almost a year away from the cage but came up short again in his return, being submitted by Renato Moicano.

Herbert finally got his first UFC win last October by knocking out Khama Worthy in Las Vegas. Hoping to pick up his second victory in the promotion against Nelson, Herbert admitted that he is still "happy" with the way his UFC stint has gone despite the three losses.

"I'm happy that it's gone the way it has to be honest," he told BT Sport in March. "I'm happy that I've gone in with those top guys first instead of going in against the lower-level guys, knocking two or three of them on the bounce and then thinking 'I'm the b*****ks'.

"So I'm happy that I've gone in there because I've learned a lot from those fights. It's helped me improve and work on things that I need to work on in my game. I feel like I was confident after coming off my fights in Cage Warriors and I thought and could [beat them]."
