Woj: ‘No guarantees’ that Lonzo Ball returns this season

The Chicago Bulls have been one of the more disappointing teams so far this season, which doesn’t help without their point guard Lonzo Ball.

Ball has still yet to return to the floor following knee surgery nearly 11 months ago to repair a small meniscus tear in his left knee.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski spoke on Ball’s status on Wednesday, leaving little hope for Bulls fans.

“There are no guarantees, I’m told, that he plays at all this season,” Wojnarowski said on ESPN prior to the Bulls-Knicks game on Wednesday. “He’s rehabbing that knee now. He’s still feeling some pain in it.”

The Bulls have been hopeful of a return at some point after the New Year but with how the Bulls are playing right now, it may be best if Ball sits the entire way to prepare for next season.

“And I think the hope is that perhaps by the All-Star break in mid-February that they have a sense whether Lonzo Ball is ready to come back and play for Chicago but a lot of that may depend on where the Bulls are in the standings…”

Chicago currently sits with an 11-16 record as the No. 11 seed in the Eastern Conference with no signs of improvement of becoming a playoff threat as they briefly showed last season.

Woj continued to say that there are ‘decisions to be made’ for the Bulls near the trade deadline, whether they retain their current core of DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic or blow it up and start another rebuild.
