The Boston Celtics dealt away restricted free agent forward Grant Williams on Wednesday night, sending the Charlotte native to the Dallas Mavericks in a three-team deal that sent Reggie Bullock and a pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs for their cap space, two second round picks to the Celtics for Williams, and of course the Tennessee alum to the Mavs.
How does this move change Boston’s prospects heading into the NBA’s 2023-24 season, a critical campaign for the Celtics? Does the trade push Dallas closer to contention? And what might be the thinking behind letting go of a player of Williams’ ability right as Boston needs to be at their strongest?
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski recently stopped by “Sports Center” to break down everything you need to know about the swap.
Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear all the finer-grained details of the deal.
