WNBA Rivalry Game Ticket Prices Hit Record High

Gas prices rising to record highs in California

This weekend’s highly anticipated WNBA rematch between basketball stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is already making history with record-breaking ticket prices. The game between Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky has set a new record for the most expensive WNBA tickets ever, with an average price of $253, a staggering 187% higher than the Sky’s usual ticket price of $88. The cheapest seat available for the game is currently priced at around $250, while the most expensive ticket is listed at over $9,000.

This will be the third meeting between the two former college rivals this season, with their previous matchups drawing significant attention and high TV ratings. In fact, the recent game between the Fever and Sky was the most-watched WNBA game on any network in 23 years, with an average of 2.25 million viewers and a peak of nearly 3 million. The Fever emerged victorious with a score of 91-83, maintaining a 2-0 lead against the Sky this season.

The excitement surrounding this weekend’s game is evident in the ticket prices, which are 116% higher than the average ticket price for Chicago Bulls home games this past season, according to TickPick. Caitlin Clark has proven to be a ratings magnet, as evidenced by the record-breaking viewership of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament title game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and her Iowa Hawkeyes, which attracted nearly 19 million viewers, making it the most-watched women’s college basketball game ever measured by Nielsen.

Clark, Reese, and other prominent players have played a significant role in the WNBA achieving its highest attendance numbers in the opening month in 26 years. The league recently announced that it had the most-watched start to the season across all six networks broadcasting the games. Additionally, the WNBA has seen a 60% increase in viewership among people of color compared to the previous year, with a substantial rise in Hispanic and Black audiences.
