WNBA Postpones Liberty vs. Lynx Game Due to Hazardous Air Quality in New York City

The WNBA postponed Wednesday night’s game between the Liberty and the Lynx, set to take place at the Barclays Center in New York City, due to the dangerous air quality in the area caused by the ongoing wildfire disaster in eastern Canada, the league announced Wednesday.

Winsidr’s Rachel Galligan first reported the news of the postponement.

In the official press release, the WNBA noted that New York City and surrounding areas are under an “Air Quality Health Advisory” through Thursday morning. The league has not yet announced when the game will take place after the postponement and are not expected to make that announcement on Wednesday.

This news came after the NWSL’s Gotham FC postponed their Wednesday match vs. the Orlando Pride because of air quality. The Yankees also moved their game vs. the White Sox to Thursday.

The Lynx were coming into Wednesday’s game vs. the Liberty in last place in the Western Conference after a rough, 1–6 start to the season. New York holds a 4–2 record and sits in second behind the Sun in the Eastern Conference standings.
