WKU bicyclists to stop in Lexington during cross-country fundraiser to battle Alzheimer’s Disease

The latest bicycle trip across America by a group raising money for Alzheimer’s Disease research and support will pause for a fundraiser in Lexington Friday afternoon. Bike 4 A-L-Z is a nonprofit formed by members of a fraternity at Western Kentucky University. Members of the group lost loved ones to Alzheimers, and since 2010, Bike 4 A-L-Z has donated more than half a million dollars. Cameron Hilton is a member of the group who made the trek once.

“When I did it, it took 56 days and we had seven rest days. So almost all week with a, with a rest day you're riding. They'll average about 75 miles a day.”

Hilton said they hope to raise 100-thousand dollars this year. Some of that will be donated at the barbecue fundraiser Friday -- just a few miles away from one of the beneficiaries.

“I'm really excited about the relationship that we've been developing with Sanders Brown, the UK Sanders Brown Center on Aging here in Lexington. They are a world class research facility.”

4 A-L-Z’s barbecue fundraiser takes place Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the fraternity’s headquarters at 1201 Red Mile Road. The next day, the dozen cyclists will hit the road again.
