Wizz Air, easyJet, Ryanair and TUI passengers could be owed cash

Some of the biggest airlines operating from the UK owe millions of pounds to passengers in unpaid refunds and expenses.

Analysis from Which? has revealed airlines including easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air and TUI collectively owe more than £4.5m. The consumer champion found thousands of court judgements against the travel providers.

Wizz Air has 1,601 "outstanding" county court judgments according to official records, totalling a huge £2,166,044. Meanwhile easyJet's outstanding judgements amount to £611,436, Ryanair's total £549,892, and TUI's are worth £1,261,897.

easyJet told Which? none of its outstanding CCJs are unpaid, while Wizz Air said it has settled 400 outstanding claims since December. It added "third-party records aren't up to date and it’s trying to get the official record updated to reflect its progress on the claims."

None of the other airlines responded to requests for comment when asked by Which?

Trust Online, the official register of court judgments, told Which?: "Even when a judgment is paid, the judgment will continue to show as ‘unsatisfied’ until the court records are updated." But it said that it was the defendant’s responsibility to update the court when payments are made.
