Hungarian airline Wizz Air which operates from several UK airports has pledged to continue flights to war-threatened Ukraine.
It follows reports that many operators are now cancelling services to the country which is on the verge of a conflict with Russia.
It said in a statement: “Wizz Air continues to closely monitor the situation in Ukraine. Currently, we have not made any changes to our schedule and all of our flights to/from Ukraine continue to operate as normal.
“All passengers with booked flights to and from Ukraine are advised to regularly check their mailboxes for further information about booked flights.”
No-frills carrier Ryanair said last week that it plans to continue flying to Ukraine.
However, German flag carrier Lufthansa said it was halting flights to Ukraine from Monday, joining Dutch airline KLM, which has already suspended flights.
“The safety of our passengers and crew members is our top priority at all times,” a spokesperson for Lufthansa said.
Scandinavian company SAS also suspended weekly flights while Air France has decided to cancel some services between Paris and Kyiv as a "precautionary measure".
Russia has already sent troops into parts of the disputed Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Kurt Volker, a former US ambassador to Nato, said the action has created a “very dire” situation.
He added: “So that also opens the possibility that they will view Ukraine as an occupier of those territories, and then fight to remove Ukrainian forces and take more.
"That in turn could lead to much greater skirmishes and fighting with Ukrainian forces which could easily escalate out of control, so this is a very, very dire time.”
