Witnesses tell of shock after girl hit by car in Falkirk as emergency services shut off road

Witnesses have spoken of their shock after a schoolgirl was hit by a car in Falkirk, leaving her with a serious head injury.

Emergency services raced to King Street in Stenhousemuir, outside Tryst Medical Centre, at around 3pm this afternoon following reports of a smash involving a pedestrian.

The 12-year-old was rushed to the nearby Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment to her injuries.

Officers taped off a large area of the road and street as they investigate how the accident happened.

At least 8 police vehicles are currently in attendance, including specialist crash scene investigators.

Pictures show cops laying yellow markers on the road.

A woman who lives on the street spoke of her shock, she said: "I had just sat down after making a cup of tea and I head this almighty bang.

"I looked out and seen a blue car stationery on the road and people just standing looking shocked.

"I thought the person had hit another car, but it was a wee lassie. She was just lying there on the road the poor wee thing."

Another witness said: "I feel sick, that was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life.

"Especially it being a wee wain as well.

"I just hope she makes a speedy recovery."

They added: "I can't stop shaking."

The road is expected to be closed for some time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3pm on Monday 17 January 2022, police received a report of a 12-year-old girl struck by a car in King Street, Stenhousemuir.

"The girl has been taken by ambulance to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with a head injury.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
