Wishaw wrestlers looking forward to bringing top show to their home town

Two Wishaw wrestlers are hoping to win big at a town centre show due to be held next month.

Frankie Mooney and Emily Hayden will be inside the ring for the first professional wrestling event to be held at Rivals Gym in the town centre.

The family-friendly action will see Frankie, nicknamed ‘The Shootfighter’ take on huge Nigerian grapplier Ubaha Martin in the main event while Emily is aiming to take down Ashley Vega and win the Champions Cup which is on offer to the winner.

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live this week, Frankie was delighted to be bringing such a big show to this hometown.

He said: “I know a lot of hard work is going into making the event happen, to make it look great and create that big event experience for wrestling fans so I am sure it won’t disappoint in that respect.

“If I was a wrestling fan I’d be excited to be buying a ticket.

“I’m looking forward to a lively crowd. I’m going to thrive in the ring when I go face to face with Ubaha Martin.

“I’m going to love being part of this fight, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Emily has also enjoyed a standout 2022 winning a number of regional titles and wowing fans with her athleticism and in-ring style.

The event is for all the family with all proceeds going to the Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs charity.

It’s a charity that’s close to Frankie’s heart and he is expecting a huge show of support for both himself and Emily.

“I’m proud to be wrestling in Wishaw, “ said Frankie.

“Alcohol and drugs affect a lot of people so to bring light to a smaller charity and help them in some way continue their work, that on it’s own merit, is brilliant.

“Of course I am proud to be part of this event and so should anyone supporting it.

“I know what I’m capable of and I’m pushing myself all the time.

“I show up every day and I do the work that’s needed.

“When it comes down to it, I can dig deep when I need to, adapt, adjust and do what it takes to come out on top.

“In terms of Emily’s bout, it will be extremely exciting to see who will prevail in this match.

“It will prove to be a hard-fought match. Both competitors are tough, but only one will win. Good luck to both, we know their fans will be rooting for them.”

Rivals Gym on Wishaw Main Street is hosting the professional wrestling charity fundraiser event on Saturday, December 17, featuring Frankie and Emily.

Doors open at 1.15pm with first match at 2pm with all proceeds going to Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs charity. Tickets are available by logging onto rivalswrestling.com
