A Wishaw woman is pleading to North Lanarkshire Council for help in sorting out her back garden.
Angela Patrick moved into her new council home in Coltness last year but has been having trouble with her garden which has a steep slope and proves difficult for her eldest daughter, Chloe, who has spina bifida and uses a wheelchair.
Angela said: “I had to do a mutual exchange last year as the council wouldn’t put a bath in for me at my old house in Pather.
“I had a wet room for my eldest daughter in my old house but she now has her own home.
“I now have a toddler Ellie and the house itself is perfect.
“However, my big problem is the garden is like Tinto Hill, the slope is unbelievable.
“My three-year-old can’t play with her outside toys because of the slope and my eldest daughter is unable to come down, visit and enjoy spending time with her younger sister.”
Angela has written to local councillors in the hope of getting the situation resolved.
She added: “All I’m asking for it to be slabbed and a fence around it so can get her paddling pool out or her wee bubble car.
“I would hope the council would look and see that it’s a modest request.
“What I would love is for Chloe and Ellie to be able to enjoy the garden together.”
North Lanarkshire Council insists a contractor had been arranged to visit the home in an attempt to resolve the problem.
However, Susan Fowler, the council’s housing operations manager, said: “We have been in regular contact with Ms Patrick regarding her garden.
“The tenant arranged and agreed a mutual exchange and moved into her home in Coltness.
“Advice was provided, prior to this, that as part of an exchange process the properties swapped are done so as seen.
“When Ms Patrick moved into her home she contacted us to request we carry out work to her garden to reduce the sloped area.
“We arranged for a specialist garden contractor to visit the property to carry out an assessment.
“However, the contractor advised that the request made by the tenant could not be delivered due to the lie of the garden and issues with its width.
“Throughout this process we have continued to offer advice and assistance to the tenant.”
