Wishaw woman left gutted after car is torched in early morning blaze

A Wishaw woman is counting the cost after her car was set ablaze in an early morning attack.

Vicky Gaughan has been left shocked and stunned following the worrying incident outside her Pather home early last Friday.

A neighbour raised the alarm over Vicky’s BMW 3 Series vehicle, with firefighters taking an hour to extinguish the blaze.

Salon owner Vicky said: “I was woken by a neighbour banging on the door just after midnight.

“I’ve only had the car for nine months and I was so shocked to see it up in flames.

“My daughter was in bed and when she got up in the morning she was absolutely distraught.

“It just beggars belief, I can’t believe this has happened.

“A similar thing happened to my neighbour a few months ago but I never expected it to happen to me.

“I don’t know how these people sleep at night.

“The firefighters were here very quickly but it took them an hour to put the fire out as I had just put a full tank of petrol in the car.”

Police confirmed that Vicky’s car was one of three similar incidents in the Wishaw area in the one night.

A Force spokesman said: “We can confirm that a BMW 3 Series was set alight at around 12.20am on Friday, June 3. The vehicle was extensively damaged and was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue.

“In Alexander Street, Wishaw, at 12.54am on June 3 a Ford Transit pick-up was also extensively damaged by fire.

“The fire service were en route to the fire in Pather when they observed this incident.

“Finally at 1.25am on June 3, a Volkswagen Golf and Mitsubishi Eclipse were damaged.

“The Volkswagen was set alight while the Mitsubishi was also damaged.

“Wishaw CID officers are following lines of enquiry including CCTV and we would ask anyone with information to come forward and contact Wishaw CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
