A Wishaw support worker has been warned over his conduct after refusing to give a service user lunch.
Wilson Kelly was reprimanded by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) following the incident in July 2021.
Kelly, who worked at Capability Scotland in Wishaw, was found by the SSSC to have “without good reason, failed to give lunch to service user AA, when it was part of his duties; hid the intended lunch item within another box and placed it in the bin; recorded on AA’s menu planner that he had given AA a quiche for lunch and tell a colleague that he had provided AA with lunch”.
The SSSC report tells Kelly: “Your behaviour was serious. You failed to provide AA with a meal and then took steps to conceal your behaviour.
“Your behaviour was neglectful and falls well below the standards of conduct expected of you as a social service worker.
“By taking steps to conceal your behaviour you have breached the trust and confidence placed on you by AA, your employer and members of the public.
“You have demonstrated a lack of honesty and integrity. You have failed to ensure that AA’s wellbeing and welfare was met.
“AA would not have been able to communicate that him had not been provided with a meal or that he was hungry. If you were to repeat this behaviour, then vulnerable service users would be placed at a serious risk of becoming malnourished.”
Kelly was told that a warning would stay on his registration for a period of 24 months.
Capability Scotland delivers exemplary care, support, and education for disabled children and adults across the country.
A spokesman for the charity said: “We don’t comment on individual staffing matters. The individual concerned has not been an employee at Capability Scotland since August 2021.”
