Wishaw boss David Dunn was delighted to see striker Kieran Brannan return with the match-winning goal in their West of Scotland Cup victory over Rossvale Academy.
The Beltane Park side managed to bounce back from last week’s 6-0 hammering by Cambuslang Rangers in the South Challenge Cup to edge out their visitors.
Wishaw were level at 2-2 going into the final five minutes after goals from Scot Nicol and Warren Grenfell had been cancelled out, but Brannan won it with a late strike.
Dunn said: “It was good to get the win. Conditions were a bit difficult and coming off the back of that 6-0 loss, it was just important to get through before the confidence was maybe a bit knocked after that.
“Kieran Brannan coming back and scoring the winner was great. He is vital for us so it was a good exercise.
“Again, though, we gave away some sloppy goals so we just need to work hard on the training pitch to hit home that we can’t keep doing that.
“We are not going to be able to score three goals every week to win a game.”
Attention now returns to league business with Wishaw travelling to Glasgow Perthshire in the West of Scotland Second Division on Saturday.
Wishy are 13th in the table and four points adrift of seventh place Perthshire, having played two games fewer, and Dunn added: “Everybody around us won on Saturday in their league games so we’ve dropped down the table again.
“But we’ve got a couple of games in hand on some teams and, if we win them, we could go as high as fifth.
“It is very tight, even though the table doesn’t look good for us. If you get a run of results you can fly up the table.
“Glasgow Perthshire is always a hard place to go but I’m always confident in this team to win games.
“We’ve had a good couple of results in the league so we’re getting there.
“We are starting to get players back as well and Saturday was the first time I had a full bench.
"That lifts the squad when players are fighting for places.”
