A Wishaw pensioner has taken upon himself to clean up a road which has been plagued by litter.
Gordon Hunter, 76, has been clearing up areas in and around Woodhall Road, near to the Cambusnethan Club, in a bid to try and make it more environmentally friendly.
Lanarkshire Live caught up with Gordon while he was starting another area with rubbish bag and litter picker in hand.
He said: “I’m just going to take my time and do the whole road .
“The two grass verges were a disgrace and so far I have collected over 100 bags.
“Usually you will just find bottles, cans and bags of crisps but I’ve found everything from radios to tyres.
“I just pull the tyres out onto the verge and get the council to pick them up.
“I’ve also noticed a good number of facemasks.
“I don’t get frustrated, I just plough on but have asked the council to put a couple of bins on the road.”
Gordon admitted he started his big clean-up after he started walking in a bid to lose a few pounds.
He is delighted with the response he has received from the public and from the local council.
He added: “In 2016 I weighed more than 20 stones, which meant I weighed 131 kilos.
“A year later I started going out walking with my friend and we usually went down to Greenhead Moss or through the woodland.
“It was then I noticed the state what the woodland was in.
“After that I started doing the clean-up and I have been pleased with the response I have got.
“The council supplied me with black bags and three litter pickers and I leave the bags at the side of the road for the council workers to pick up.
“My local councillors have been top class as well. I like being out and about in the fresh air so if I’m not down at Wishaw South Bowling Club I’m doing this.”
