Wishaw mum with a heart of gold is this week’s Say It With Flowers recipient

Despite being diagnosed with cancer and having undergone a number of gruelling sessions of chemotherapy, brave mum-of-two Julie Hay still manages to keep her spirits up and continues to support her family.

Speaking of her mum's resolve, proud daughter, Emma Smith, told Lanarkshire Live: “My mum was diagnosed in October and has been fighting so hard, never thinking of herself in the process.

“She has undergone 11 sessions of chemotherapy and still manages to smile every day.”

Brave Julie, who lives in Wishaw with her husband David, has devoted her life to raising her two daughters, Emma and Laura, and since her diagnosis has spent much of her time looking after her beloved grandchildren, Miles and Malin.

She has worked in the office of Cleland Primary for more than 10 years and, following her treatment, she is looking forward to returning to her duties at the school.

Emma explained: “My mum is really well-known and well-liked by everybody at Cleland Primary School and is hoping to go back. She is highly thought of.

“She is really bubbly and loving and would do anything for anybody. She is really great with the kids and she loves being with them.”

And when Emma told us about her amazing mum, we were only too pleased to help out, surprising her with a stunning floral tribute, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

“I think being considered for this award will make her day brighter and put a big smile on her face,” said Emma.

And on accepting her arrangement, Julie told us: “It was lovely to receive the flowers and it was done with the best of intentions.

“My two daughters have kept me going. I was so grateful for all the help over the last six months; it’s been a rollercoaster for all the family.

“I would also like to thank the Wishaw Press for running the competition and to Pixies Petals for the beautiful flowers.”
