Wishaw mum gutted after skydive in memory of murdered son is postponed

A Wishaw mum was left gutted after her charity in tribute to her murdered son was called off.

Kellyann Berry, her partner Eddie Shannon, and 19-year-old son Aidan were set to skydive from 10,000 feet on the weekend of her late son Sean Ford’s 18th birthday.

However, when Kellyann, Eddie, Aidan and a mini-bus full of supporters turned up in Perth, they were told their skydive would have to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Kellyann said: “I was really looking forward to it, I had built it up but to have it cancelled on the day itself was disappointing.

“But it was very windy on the day so they couldn’t take a chance on safety which was understandable.

“We had such a great time going up on the mini-bus. All of Sean’s friends were there.

“We have it all booked again for July 10, so on the plus side it gives us another month to fundraise.

“We have almost hit our target so now have more time to get there.”

The trio will be fundraising for Steel Warriors, a charity which melts down knives taken off the streets and recycles the steel into outdoor community gyms.

Their vision is to build a UK-wide network of gyms and a movement which empowers young people to succeed in life and create safer communities.

On the same weekend, friends and family marked Sean’s birthday with a balloon launch.

Kellyann added: “We weren’t sure what the weather would be like.

Friends of Sean Ford let off balloons on what would have been his 18th birthday (WSH])

“During the day it was rainy and windy but once we went up to the cemetery the sun came out for the balloon launch.

“All of Sean’s friends were there and I’m sure he would have loved it.”
