Coltness High has selected their school captains and vice-captains for the next 12 months.
Emma MacNicol and Max Johnston were selected for the top jobs with Ewan Davie and Troy Hawkins given the roles of vice-captains.
Max said: “I am ecstatic to have been chosen for school captain and i am looking forward to working to make this school year more enjoyable for every one of our pupils.
“I would like to start by saying I will make it my priority to create opportunities for all the students to feel comfortable getting involved in extra-curricular activities, and I hope to achieve a high morale and a friendly environment within Coltness High.
“This year we are planning to host a breakfast club in the school every morning, where pupils can come and have there breakfast in a safe environment and eat for free.
“We are also planning expressive arts competitions such as a talent show where pupils can express themselves in their own unique way, and also various sporting events and competitions such as, teachers vs students volleyball, inter-house football and more.
“I am honoured to spend my last year at Coltness High as a school captain as i feel it is a way to give back to my school after all my teachers and peers have done for me over the years and i look forward to an exciting sixth year of school.”
Emma continued: “I am beyond proud and overjoyed to have been selected as a school captain of Coltness High School.
“Being appointed captain comes with a great responsibility that I am very eager to take on for this upcoming school year. I am excited to get the opportunity to work closely with the staff and my fellow pupils to create new ideas that will hopefully benefit everyone at the school.
As captains, we would like to raise awareness for charities that the pupils at Coltness High will be able to select themselves, as a specific charity may have a different meaning for several pupils.
“We, as captains will also raise more awareness for all of the support that the school offers and we will encourage pupils to attend support groups that will be created such as study groups and a group which can talk about the experience of an exam, which will hopefully provide upcoming seniors struggling with the stress of exams the support they need.
“We would also like to instigate more activities and inter-house competitions within the school which focus on the diversity and individuality the pupils here at Coltness High School have, which create a positive environment and friendly rivalry between all pupils and teachers.
Coltness High headteacher John McGilp is pleased for all four pupils and is looking forward to a new school year after the summer break.
He said: “I am delighted to be working this year with Max and Emma, ably supported by Ewan and Troy.
“They are all pupils I have come to know very well through their time at Coltness and I am looking forward to them supporting the school in making improvements across various areas over the coming year.
“I am particularly excited to see what form the breakfast club will take and also the supports they have planned for young people in the run up to exams.
“They are all outstanding young people who I am sure will be superstars this year but will also go on in life to make huge footprints wherever they go or choose to do.”
