Wishaw boxer bags second western district title in succession

A Wishaw teenage boxer is celebrating winning the western district title for the second year in succession.

Coltness High pupil Reece Muir won the 54kg category last weekend held at M&D’s with a close victory over opponent Lloyd Delaney from Forgewood ABC.

Cambusnethan Miners ABC coach Gerry Taggart was delighted with Reece’s success.

Gerry said: “It was a close contest but Reece done enough over the three rounds, using his speed and accurate combinations, to take the decision.

“Young Lloyd is a classy operator and it was a good contest but I think Reece did enough.

“This is the second year in a row Reece has been crowned champion and he hopes to add the Scottish Youth title to his collection later in the year.

“He is a clever lad and is doing well at school so he is juggling things at the moment.

“But he is a lot of good attributes and he is one to keep your eye on.”

The club also had several silver medallists at the competition - Aaron Bennett, Logan Rae, Mia Pearson and Reegan Birtea - who were all in very close contests against top opposition.

They are all back out next weekend at the Scottish School and Junior championships to be held at Ravenscraig.

The club are also looking forward to their annual home show to be held on March 10 at the Cambusnethan Miners Club.
