Wishaw boss demands players build on good wins as they bid to climb league table

Wishaw boss David Dunn has challenged his charges to keep climbing the table after picking up just their second league win of the season on Saturday.

The Beltane Park boss watched his side ease past Glasgow United with a 3-0 win on the road, which moved them up to 10th spot in the West of Scotland League Second Division.

Two goals in a minute from Steven McGurgan and KB Grant early in the first half set them on the way before a Scott Nicol penalty in the 69th minute made sure of the points.

It leaves Wishaw just two points off the top five and

Dunn knows a win at home to Yoker this Saturday could see them break into that position.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It was a fantastic performance from start to finish. I asked for a fast start and we came out of the blocks really well with a couple of early goals.

“We could have scored a few more and, apart from maybe one or two wee half chances for Glasgow, we were very much in control the whole game. If we beat Yoker and results go our way, we can go up to as high as fifth.

“Before Saturday we were kind of looking at the other end of the table but if you throw a couple of results together in this league it can easily change.

“We’ve jumped up to 10th and there’s only two points to fifth place at the moment. If we can get there I’d say we are within touching distance of where I feel we should be.

“We haven’t started the season well but to be where we are having had that start, it is quite promising in my eyes and hopefully we build on this.”

It has been a difficult start to the campaign for Wishy with three league defeats and a Junior Cup second round exit at home to Maybole last month.

So Dunn was pleased to savour success on Saturday and added: “It was enjoyable to be part of. You forget sometimes what that [winning] feeling is like but this is why we are all in this game.

“It makes it all worthwhile when you see the boys working hard in the week and the things you talk about work out during the game. It’s fantastic.”
