Wirral’s garden waste bins to cost more this year

Wirral Council is set to raise the charge for garden waste bins in the borough by more than 15%.

The local authority said due to the rising costs of providing the brown bin service, residents will have to pay £50 for it, up from £43. If residents want a second bin they will have to pay £30, up from £25 currently.

Residents who pay for the brown bin service by direct debit will automatically be signed up for the increased charge unless they cancel by April 24. If subscribers want to make other changes to their package, such as adding another brown bin or reducing the number of bins they pay for, they can do so once the new subscription period opens on April 11.

Existing subscribers can make changes or cancel their service here. Alternatively, they can call 0151 606 2004 during regular office hours.

Items residents can put in their brown bins include grass mowings, hedge cuttings, pruning, leaves, weeds, dead flowers and real Christmas trees. Subscribers must make sure all of their garden waste fits inside their bin.

Residents are encouraged to chop up their hedge cuttings and pruning if necessary. The new subscription period runs from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023.

Anyone wanting to subscribe to the service for the first time can do so from April 11.
