Wirral records 50 per cent Covid infections rise

An area of the Liverpool City Region recorded a 50% rise in Covid infections.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the Wirral saw 1,259 infections in the seven days ending March 5 - that's 421 more positive tests than the previous week.

This meant that Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by exactly 50%.

Covid infections rose across all areas of the Liverpool City Region.

The increases were: 29% in Liverpool; 20% in Halton; 31% in St Helens; 37% in Sefton; and 46% in Knowsley.

In the LCR overall, there was a week-on-week percentage change figure increase of 36%.

The rise in infections has possibly been caused by the government's recent lifting of all restrictions.

Near to the LCR border, infections also increased.

Warrington and West Lancashire and Cheshire West and Chester, all saw rises in positive Covid tests in the week ending March 5. In England, there was a 20% increase in positive tests.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 1,667 cases in the week ending March 5, which is 376 more cases than the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure rose by 29%.

The latest infection rate was 333.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 1,259 cases in the week ending March 5, which is 421 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure rose by 50%.

The latest infection rate was 388.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 406 positive tests over the last week - that's 68 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure rose by 20% in Halton in the week ending March 5.

The latest infection rate is 312.9 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 496 cases in the week ending March 5, which is 118 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 273.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure rose by 31%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 480 cases in the week ending March 5, which is 150 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 314.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure rose by 46%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 928 cases in the week ending March 5, which is a 251 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 336.4 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases rose by 37% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 5,236 positive tests over in the week ending March 5, which is 1,384 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change rose by 36%. The latest infection rate is 307.50 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 658 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 5, which is 139 more cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure rose by 27%. There was an infection rate of 314.24 per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 401 coronavirus cases in the week ending March 5, which is 121 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure rose by 43%. The infection rate was 350.23 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 1,368 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 5, which is 411 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 397.88 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage rose by 43% in cases.

England

In the week ending March 5, England recorded 208,847 coronavirus cases, which is 35,147 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage rise of 20% in cases in England, and there was an infection rate of 369.31 per 100,000 people.
