Wirral council have explained why some people living in the borough are still waiting for their £150 council tax rebate.
In February, the government announced a package of support to help people manage with the the rising cost of living, including a one-off payment of £150 for households in council tax bands A to D, paid to people by their local authority.
Wirral Council began to make the payments in May and by Wednesday, June 1 just under 85,000 people eligible had received their payment. At the time the council said there were around "40,000" people who fall into the A to D council tax bands who were still waiting to receive their £150 council tax energy rebate.

Today Wirral Council has issued an update on their council tax rebate payments and explained where the missing payments. In it they said those eligible for the rebate who pay council tax by direct debit and have not yet received their payment should expect to see the money "over the next two weeks".
For those who don't pay their council tax by direct debit, the council said a letter inviting people to apply for the £150 council tax energy rebate will be sent out by early July. However, those who don't pay council tax via direct debit can also apply online on the council's website.
The full update, posted to Facebook, read: "[P]ayments have now been made to most Direct Debit payers. Our team is aiming to pay the rest over the next two weeks but need to complete some verification checks.
"This is nothing to worry about and you don’t need to contact us to provide additional information.
"If you don’t pay council tax by Direct Debit, you’ll receive a letter by early July inviting you to apply for the £150 rebate. You don’t need to wait for the letter – you can apply now at www.wirral.gov.uk/150
"Applications will be processed as quickly as possible and providing full details will help avoid delay. This includes providing your 8-digit council tax reference and 14-digit property reference which you can find on your council tax bill.
