The North East woke up to picturesque scenes on Friday morning as snow and frost covered the region overnight.
Hills in Durham were covered in a blanket of snow like something from a postcard while the pure white rooftops in Consett could have been a scene from a Christmas film.
But as the frozen landscape lay glinting in the morning sun, the impact of the plummeting temperatures was anything but ideal for those venturing out.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians were warned by the Met Office to take extra care as it issued a yellow weather warning until midday on Friday - with commuters battling treacherous conditions, and some falling foul of hidden patches of ice on roads and pavements.
One driver lost control of their van in the thick snow in Castleside, Durham, and smashed into the hedgerows on a narrow lane, while residents in Burnopfield could be seen digging out pathways through their gardens.
Luckily the snow is not set to return to the North East until at least Monday with just a light dusting forecast for the afternoon, though temperatures will only hit a maximum of 3C this weekend.
