Winter storm to bring up to a foot of snow

Munich airport closed, soccer league cancelled as heavy snow blankets Bavaria

A fast-moving winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to parts of the northeastern United States this weekend. From Pennsylvania to Boston and upstate New York, residents are bracing themselves for the arrival of this weather system.

Currently, the storm is making its way through the southern end, bringing rain from Jackson, Mississippi to Washington D.C. There is also a separate cluster of severe thunderstorms following closely behind. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 a.m. Central time, with a few warnings already issued. Meanwhile, on the backside of the system, colder air is present, resulting in snowfall across Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas. Both areas could receive up to six inches of snow, while parts of Oklahoma might see 2 to 4 inches.

As the storm progresses, heavy rain is expected to sweep through cities such as Memphis and Houston, before changing over to snow for some areas. This will likely create a challenging morning commute for those living in these regions. The storm is predicted to continue moving eastward, impacting cities like Charlotte and Greenville. Residents in these areas should be prepared for heavy rain and potential flash flooding. Additionally, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms in parts of the Northeast as the storm system lifts into that region on Monday.

With regards to snowfall, the storm is projected to bring widespread accumulation of 4 to 8 inches in most areas. However, some locations, including Binghamton, New York, and Worcester, Massachusetts, could potentially see up to a foot of snow. Travelers and residents in these regions should take precautions and stay updated on the latest weather advisories.

The storm is expected to continue its journey northeastward by Monday evening, impacting the Northeast with winter weather conditions. Along with the snow, there may be gusty winds, creating the potential for reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions.

Authorities are urging individuals to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. This includes monitoring local weather updates, preparing emergency kits, and minimizing travel during the storm. It is also essential to check on family, friends, and neighbors, particularly those who may be more vulnerable during inclement weather.

As the storm develops, continued monitoring and adherence to safety guidelines will be crucial in dealing with the potential impacts. Local authorities and emergency services are prepared to respond to any issues that may arise.
