Winter Olympics: See how Team GB has performed at every games ahead of Beijing 2022

The Winter Olympics has now kicked off in Beijing, with athletes in the curling starting their events even before the opening ceremony had begun.

Great Britain has a long history of competing in the Winter Olympics, with the country's athletes competing at every single games since the first at Chamonix in 1924.

With Britain enjoying a relatively mild climate, it has meant that the country has not always excelled at the winter sports But as a nation, we can boast a number of famous victories, such as Torvill and Dean's Bolero performance which won them the gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

In recent games, Britain has managed to greatly increase its medal count, with 16 athletes winning medals at Sochi 2014, across five events. Britain then won medals in another five events in Pyeongchang in 2018.

This year, pundits are predicting that Team GB could walk away with between three and seven medals.

Brad Hall's bobsleigh team is among those tipped for big things. So too has snowboarder Charlotte Bankes, who until recently was competing for France before defecting to Team GB. She is the current snowboard cross world champion.

Kirsty Muir is the youngest athlete competing with Team GB this year. At just 17 years old she could walk away with a medal in freestyle skiing in both the slopestyle and the big air.

But while we wait to find out how our athletes perform, why not take a look at how Team GB has managed to do in past games?

The interactive graphic below lets you see how many athletes were awarded medals in each of the Winter Olympics since 1924. By selecting "medal" in the "shade by" drop-down menu, you can see how each athlete performed. Get a more in-depth look by then grouping the athletes by Olympic Games, or view them on a map showing where the games were held.

The graphic shows how many individual athletes won a medal in the games not how many events Britain won medals in. It means that each team member who won a medal in events such as the four-man bobsleigh will be shown as a medal winner.

The data was compiled from information collected in the Olympian Database, which has tracked the medal winners from a number of sources.
