Winter Love Island set to return two years after ITV axed reality series

Winter Love Island is reportedly returning to TV screens two years after it was axed.

Love Island host Laura Whitmore hosted the winter version of the ITV reality show back in 2020 which saw couple Finn Tapp and Paige Turley win the prize money in South Africa.

However, it only ran for one series and bosses decided to scrap it due to the pandemic

According to The Sun, a source said: “Love Island bosses enjoyed the one and only series of Winter Love Island, but it was just before the pandemic raged so was shelved for 2021.

“When they started casting for this summer’s series they thought there’s definitely enough talent to do a second series again so have started the plans for a 2023 Winter Love Island.

“The series generally is really important for them as it attracts the all-important younger viewers, so if they can get a second series in one year then everyone will be delighted," the insider added.

It's also been reported that bosses are yet to decide on a location for the new winter series.

A Love Island representative refused to comment when contacted by The Mirror.

News about Winter Love Island comes after it was revealed that bosses are apparently introducing a new feature in the upcoming summer series to encourage more hook ups.

The ITV2 series, which will kick off at the beginning of next month, is said to be coming back with a huge gym and workout area- perfect for working up a sweat.

Producers are said to hope the new feature will lead to more hook-ups, as the single islanders will be able to watch their love interests from afar.

An insider revealed to The Sun: "Viewers love all the scenes of rippling muscles and sexy squats.

"Now producers hope that extra space for couples to work out will lead to more hook-ups as the testosterone flows."

The summer edition of Love Island 2022 starts on June 6.
