Winter Funland is making its return to Manchester this Christmas, bringing fairground rides and ice-skating to the BEC Arena in Trafford Park. The festive event made its comeback last year after the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Returning from Sunday, December 18 to Monday, January 2, it will be the only winter wonderland-styled event to take place this Christmas in Manchester after Winter Wonderland Manchester confirmed that it wouldn’t be going ahead as EventCity - where the event was formerly hosted - as it is being demolished to make way for new Therme waterpark that’s going to be built on the site.
The Winter Funland event will include ice-skating, a traditional funfair and attractions for children. Featuring 17 fairground rides - including a rollercoaster and funhouse - organisers say it works out on single entry ticket at just over £1 per ride and you can ride as many times as you can fit into a session.

Commenting on the return of the annual Christmas event, a spokesperson said: “Winter Funland originally took place at Event City in Trafford Park and was the event that had the ice rink and we are delighted we will be returning again 2022 at the BEC Arena which is just five mins from the Trafford Centre. We will be the only winter wonderland this year and while the BEC Arena is smaller than our previous venue, there is plenty to keep young children entertained and we have maximised the space to give young families a magical day out.
“As Winter Funland starts just six days before Christmas, Santa will be popping by with his band of mischievous elves during the event. 2022 has been a tough year for so many people, due to costs rising and we understand many people are finding it difficult.
“However, if young families are looking for a day out to treat young children, and to celebrate the most magical time of the year, then Winter Funland is a great way to make memories with young children.”
This Christmas extravaganza will also include a festive sweet and savoury food and drink market including halal food, mulled wine and sweet shop, plus elves popping up all over the place. Tickets cost £19.50 each or £77 for a family of four, plus a booking fee. Children under three and carers go free but still need tickets.
The tickets include three and a half hours within Winter Funland, plus entertainment courtesy of clowns and acrobats. There is limited premium parking on site which costs £10 and is on a first come first serve basis or alternative parking can be found close to the BEC arena.
There is also public transport including a metro stop just five mins walk from the arena, with the closest stop Parkway Tram Stop and visitors can travel by bus number 272 which stops on Ashburton Road two mins from BEC arena. Booking fees also apply.
