Winona Ryder Clarifies Met Gala Dress Controversy In Interview.

Winona Ryder

Actress Winona Ryder recently spoke out about a Met Gala controversy involving Kendall Jenner and a dress she once modeled. In a cover story with Harper’s Bazaar, Ryder revealed that she had indeed worn the same archival Givenchy dress that Jenner claimed to be the first human to wear. The dress in question was featured in a 1999 Flaunt magazine shoot where Ryder donned the slinky black design.

Jenner had described the dress as a unique piece that had never been shown on the runway and was in line with the Met Gala’s theme. However, photos of Ryder modeling the same dress surfaced shortly after Jenner's claim. It was confirmed that the version Ryder wore in Flaunt was a replica, but in her recent interview, Ryder hinted that she may have actually worn the original.

Ryder recalled hearing about the dress dilemma at the time and confirmed that she had worn it, even sharing that she had pictures from the shoot. The dress, part of Alexander McQueen’s fall ’99 collection for Givenchy, featured a corset-style top with a sheer cutout panel and tassel trim on the shoulders. Ryder showcased the plunging black design in two photos for the magazine.

Aside from the dress controversy, Ryder also revealed her decision to no longer wear high heels to red carpet events, opting for boots instead. She mentioned making this conscious choice about six years ago. The Givenchy dress, with its intricate design and historical significance, is likely to be remembered as a notable piece in fashion history.
